Mildred M. McGraw
She had resided most of her life in Owosso, after marrying John H. McGraw in Miami, Oklahoma on October 3, 1946. He predeceased her on April 5, 1970. Mrs. McGraw worked for many years as a March of Dimes volunteer, was a PTO member at Bryant School, and worked as a chairman for many years for the city of Owosso, at various voting areas in Owosso. She was a faithful member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, the St. Paul Altar Society, and the Owosso Eagles Club where she enjoyed polka dancing. Most of all, she was a very loving and giving mother, grandmother, and friend to many. Survivors include her son, Michael McGraw; daughter, Patricia (Larry) Dumond; son, Robert McGraw (Jeannette); daughter, Janis (Ron) Green, all of Owosso; grandchildren, Gerrit Dumond, Blake Dumond, Christopher McGraw, April Donelson, Sarah McGraw and Katie Green; sisters, Nellie Baunhofer and Beth Ledbetter; and four sisters-in-law, including Mary McGraw of Owosso. She was predeceased by her husband, John; infant grandchild, Baby John Dumond; her parents; two sisters; one brother; and in-laws. Age 86, of Owosso, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at Ovid Healthcare. Ruth worked for Sears, Turnstedt in Detroit, Bodker Dairy, and owned and operated a party store. She also worked for Kelly Services, Twin Pines Dairy, and Awrey Bakeries. A Memorial Service will be held 4 pm, Friday, August 1, 2008 at Nelson-House Funeral Home. Ruth's final resting place will be Park View Memorial Cemetery in Livonia, Michigan. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, August 1, 2008 from 3 pm, until the time of the service. Ruth was born on November 28, 1921 in New Castle, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Clair and Anna (Haack) Newton. She graduated from Redford High School. On June 30, 1951 she married Mark Beltz in Detroit. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, and sewing. Survivors include her daughter, Alice (Ralph) Schmidt of Owosso; step-son, William (Pauline) Beltz of Harrison; granddaughter, Abigail Elise Schmidt of Owosso; and brother, Tom (Yvonne) Newton of Pickford. D. Geer Michael was born on May 1, 1954 in Detroit. He attended Walled Lake Western High School and had a HVAC certification from Lansing Community College. He was a student teacher at the Adelphi Technical Institute of Warren, Michigan in the 80's. He adored and enjoyed his grandchildren, hunting, fishing, camping,
Nascar, photography, and boat racing. He was the most happy when he
was helping people. Bernice Sparkia
Age 92, of Owosso, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at Grandhaven Living Center in Lansing. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 am, Monday, July 21, 2008 at St. Paul's Catholic Church, with Fr. John Fain officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Home on Monday from 9 am until the time of the service. Bernice was born on June 19, 1916 in Bennington Township, the daughter of John and Catherine (Rourke) Rondo. She attended the Owosso Business Institute, and worked as a bookkeeper at U.S. Brick (formerly Michigan Vitrified Tile Company) from 1952 to 1969. Bernice married Robert J. "Bob" Sparkia in Owosso on June 29, 1940. Bob predeceased her on July 21, 1984. Three sisters, Evelyn Sparkia, Catherine Rondo and Dorothy Blosser also predeceased her. Bernice was a life-long member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, as well as a member of the St. Paul's Altar Society and St. Theresa's Guild. Bernice served for many years as a member of the Memorial Healthcare Auxiliary. She was also a tutor for the Adult Literacy Program, and an American Cancer Society volunteer. Bernice was known for her ready smile and twinkling eyes. She had a kind word and witty remark for friends and strangers alike. Her "family" included several "adopted daughters" who also called her "mom." She made a difference in people's lives; she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Survivors include her loving family: daughters, Janet (Larry) Holland of Alanson, and Sandy (Tom) DeSantis of Charlotte; grandchildren, Kim (Joe) Pizzimenti, Sandy (Dave) Phillips, Nick (Betsy) DeSantis, Mandy DeSantis, and Sara Apigian; great-grandchildren, Alex, Nicole, Marissa, Darrien, Evan, Taylor and Colin. Vern R. Carpenter
Vern retired from Digital Equipment Corporation in Maynard, Massachusetts, where he worked as a computer system analyst. A Memorial Service will be held 3 pm, Monday, July 21, 2008 at Nelson-House Funeral Home, with Pastor Ron Burns officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Vern was born on July 26, 1942 in Lansing, the son of Rex Thayer Carpenter and Geneva Pearl (Benton) Skinner-Carpenter. He graduated from Owosso High School with the class of 1960. He served in the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1973 in Okinawa, Japan. Vern was involved in the Boy Scouts through the Sea Scouts. He owned a super late model race car and raced at the Spartan and Owosso Speedways. Survivors include his brothers, George (Betty) Skinner, Eugene (Mary) Carpenter, Wayne (Lynda) Carpenter, and David (Maxine) Carpenter; sister, Ruth Ann (Bob) Dietrich; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Age 86, of Owosso, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2008 at Memorial Healthcare. Max worked at Universal Electric for fourteen years and then for Redmond Motors/Motor Products for seventeen years, retiring in 1980 as a supervisor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 am, Monday, July 14, 2008 at St. Paul's Catholic Church, with Fr. Larry Delaney officiating, assisted by Deacon Mike Barrett. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Home on Saturday from 6 to 8 pm, and on Sunday from 12 noon to 8 pm. A Rosary will be prayed Sunday at 7pm. Max was born on July 3, 1922 in Owosso, the son of Frank and Hazel (Shelp) Delaney. He attended St. Paul's Catholic schools. He served in the United States Army, 12th Armored Division, the 56th AIB from 1942 until 1946. On October 16, 1965 he married Mary Ann Kral at St. Paul's Catholic Church. He was a member of Knights of Columbus-3rd Degree. He loved deer hunting and spending time at his cottage in Harrison, and winters in Zephyrhills, Florida. He was fascinated by automobiles and kept his spotless. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; brothers, Carl (Ann) Delaney, and James Delaney; sisters-in-law, Eleanor, Beverly, and Irene Delaney; and numerous nieces and nephews. Helen C. Goettl Age 84, of Corunna, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at Memorial Healthcare. Helen worked as a nurse aid and cook. She enjoyed baking, knitting,
gardening and working in her yard with her flowers. She especially loved

Age 93, of Owosso, passed away Monday, July 7, 2008 at Shiawassee County Medical Care Facility. Lloyd worked at Nash Kelvinator during the war and then for Oldsmobile in Lansing as a tool and die hardener, retiring in 1978 after more than thirty-two years. He also worked his farm north of St. Johns for more than forty years and loved every minute of it. Funeral Services will be held 11 am, Friday, July 11, 2008 at First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Duane Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Lloyd was born on May 4, 1915 in Mayville, Michigan, the son of George and Laura (Smith) Ford. He attended Owosso schools. He resided most of his life in Shiawassee and Clinton counties. On August 19, 1933 he married Marie Ivora Hilden in Mayville, Michigan. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and the U.A.W. of Lansing, Local 652. He was always very active in his church, and with the 4-H softball. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, golfing, and spending winters in Florida. But most of all, he loved his God, his family, and his friends. Survivors include his wife, Marie; one daughter and her husband, Dr. and Mrs. Richard (Joyce) Young of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; one son and his wife, George and JoAnne Ford of Moran, Michigan; four grandchildren; Thomas (Eileen) Phelps of Phoenix, David (Cindy) Phelps of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, Michael Ford of Austin, Texas, and Jennifer (David) Snyder of Laingsburg; five great-grandchildren, Dustin Phelps, Anna and Kayla Phelps, and Calvin and Gavin Snyder; sister, Genevieve Fulton of Owosso; and many nieces and nephews. Edwin was born July 18, 1931 to Samuel and Yvonne (DuBois) Vienot in Brighton, Colorado. Eddie was one of five children, all of which have predeceased him. On July 4, 2008 Eddie was promoted into the presence of his Lord whom he loved and faithfully served. Funeral Services will be held at 1 pm, Thursday, July 10, 2008 at Dearborn Heights Christian Assembly. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 11 am until the time of the service. Eddie resided in Colorado for seventy-four years, where he attended school and worked at various jobs in the area. He retired from the Brighton U.S. Post Office in 1997, after twenty-five years of service. In 1954 he married Mary Ann Tissot from Michigan. They have enjoyed fifty-four years of marriage. Although God never gave them children of their own, they have through the years, reached out as a couple to many needy individuals who have become their adopted family. In November 2004 Eddie and Mary Ann moved from Brighton, Colorado to Northville, Michigan to be closer to family. Eddie is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; sisters-in-law, Lois Johnstone, and Lillian Tissot; brother-in-law, Sam Tissot; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Age 81, of Owosso, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at Memorial Healthcare. John worked as a bank teller in his home town of Linton, Indiana and later for Owosso Savings Bank for twenty years, becoming their Vice President and Branch Manager. He then managed Johns Sport & Marine for fifteen years. He later was a sales rep for Stechschulte Gas & Oil. The family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Home on Monday, July 7, 2008 from 3 to 7 pm. John was born on January 4, 1927 in Linton, Indiana the son of Wayne and Leta (Turner) Corbin. He graduated from Linton Stockton High School in 1945. On October 16, 1949 he married Gloria Fisk in Linton, Indiana. John loved sports and in his earlier years he built and raced speed boats. He enjoyed various types of hunting and fishing. He loved the out of doors and prided himself on caring for their home and yard. He reserved his greatest love for his family. Survivors include his wife, Gloria; three sons, John G. (Lonnie) Corbin of Kalamazoo, Brent D. (Rosemary) Corbin of Henderson, and Scott M. (Cindy) Corbin of Elsie; six grandchildren, Joel (Ronda) Corbin, Trevor (Brandi) Corbin, Rachel Corbin, Lisa (Clint) Powell, Tyler Corbin, and Mallory Corbin; four great-grandchildren, Trista, Zachary, Evah, and Natalie; brother, Doug Corbin of Linton, Indiana; and sister, Mildred J. She loved baking, and was well-known for her kolachies. She enjoyed
collecting cow figurines and dolls, which she fixed their hair and clothing
before giving them to the St. Joseph Catholic Preschool. She loved her
family and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph on August 12, 2005. Mildred died of cancer on Monday, June 23, 2008 at her residence at the age of 84. She was born on January 26, 1924 to Clarence and Maude (Warren) Tubbs in Owosso, Michigan. She is survived by her loving husband of sixty-two years, Clare Hathaway; and children, Pat (Jim) Van Drunen of Crete, Illinois, Phil (Susan) Hathaway of Grand Rapids, and Jim (Patti) Hathaway of Westerville, Ohio. She was loved by grandchildren, Mark (Sarah) VanDrunen, Peter (Toni) VanDrunen, John VanDrunen, Alison and Ross Hathaway, and Bryan and Drew Hathaway; and three great-grandchildren. She is survived by siblings, Shirley (Lloyd) Rivest of New York, Clare (Carol) Tubbs of North Carolina, and Lois (Tom) Beers of Indiana. and Savior in April 1952, and was a long-time member of Grace Bible
Church, a charter member of Bethel Evangelical Free Church, and associate
member of Lake Morton Community Church in Lakeland, Florida. Mildred was a cost accountant, working for Universal Electric for twenty-nine years. 2008. On February 14, 2008 she married Derek Torstenson in Harrison. She

Robert "Bob" R. Kraatz
Age 77, of Owosso, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, June 21, 2008 at his residence, with family at his side. Robert started off in the mail room at Michigan National Bank in Saginaw and worked his way to Vice President. He later took some time from banking and worked as a computer system analyst for Burroughs Corporation in Lansing. Later he became Vice President of Security National Bank in Battle Creek, before returning in 1973 as a Sr. Vice President at State Savings Bank, later known as Key State Bank, and now known as Chemical Bank. Funeral Services will be held 11 am, Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at Salem Lutheran Church, with Pastor James Bare officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Home on Monday from 6 to 8 pm, and on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. Robert was born on October 11, 1930 in Saginaw, the son of Edward Leonard Kraatz and Dorothea Jenny (Alsgaard) Kraatz. He graduated from Saginaw High School. Church in Saginaw. He was a member of the American Banker's Association,
the Rotary Club, the Chamber of Commerce, and the United Way. He was
also active in River Days, now called Curwood Festival. He was predeceased by his daughter, Kathleen Lucille Kraatz; son, Todd James Kraatz; father, Edward Leonard Kraatz; mother, Dorothea Jenny (Alsgaard) Kraatz-Matuzak; and step-father, Francis Edward Matuzak. She was a member of Northgate Wesleyan Church and the Women's Christian Temperance Union. Survivors include her husband, James; daughter, Naomi (Rick) Thayer; four sons, James H. (Brenda) McKay, Peter B. (Cindy) McKay, Brian L. (Diane) McKay, and Rev. Mark A. (Dianne) McKay; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Daugherty; and brother, Ivan Boden. Age 72, of Owosso, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, June 18, 2008. Virginia retired as an auditor from the State of Michigan in 1994, after twenty years of service, where she received many awards for going above and beyond duty in helping others. Later she used her skills in becoming the manager, care taker, and special friend to the residents of Kelly Manor for twelve years. She was very involved in each of their lives and it was known throughout the building that her door was always open. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9 am, Saturday, June 21, 2008 at St. Paul's Catholic Church, with Fr. John Fain officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery. Virginia was born on October 14, 1935 in Bennington Township, the daughter of William and Helen (Scollon) Kenney. She graduated from Owosso High School. She was married to Norman E. Lester for twenty-eight years. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and a volunteer at Memorial Healthcare. She is survived by her daughter, Coleen (Jerry) Haber of Owosso; son, John (Annette) Lester of Corunna; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Bret Golab) Haber, and Alyssa Lester; four brothers, John (Carol) Kenney, Andy (Mary Kay) Kenney, David (Linda) Kenney all of Owosso, and Gerald Kenney of Chelsea; four sisters, Pat (Jim) King, Betty (Dave) Hopkins, Mary (Dan) Tomacik all of Owosso, and Janet (Jim) Wiemer of California. On October 29, 1960 she married Milton Elver Hemenway in Brawley, California. He predeceased her in 1998. She enjoyed playing Bingo, doing needlepoint, and watching her grandchildren at their special events and sporting events. She loved Christmas time and family get-togethers. Survivors include her son, Gregg Hemenway; daughter, Kelly (Todd) Follen; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Follen, and Joshua and Jessica Hemenway; great-grandchildren, Josh, Braden, and Brooklyn; step-sister, Pat (John) Wilson; and step-brother, Dennis (Kim) Weeks. Age 70, of Owosso, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at Shiawassee County Medical Care Facility. Elmer worked on the docks in Gaylord and was Postmaster in Hulbert,
Michigan, with the United States Postal Service. He was also Postmaster
in Cohoctah, Michigan, before retiring. He worked the past seven years
for Wal-Mart stocking shelves. Funeral Services will be held 11 am, Saturday, June 14, 2008 at Nelson-House Funeral Home with Pastor Roger DeVore officiating. Elmer was born on June 25, 1937 in Detroit, the son of Osmer and Ida (Forst) Mikkola. He graduated from high school and then served in the United States Army. woodworking, camping with his grandchildren, and traveling. He liked
playing card games, collecting old train sets, and spending time with

Age 55, of Owosso, passed away Friday, June 6, 2008. Dennis worked for Vaungard in Owosso for ten years as a painter, and then most recently at Johnson Carbide in Saginaw working in metal fab as a saw grinder. There will be no funeral services or visitation per Bim's request. Dennis was born on January 16, 1953 in Flint, the son of Ted and Manerva (Snow) Stall. On July 3, 1991 he married Suzanne McCarrick in Corunna. He enjoyed
bowling and playing with his grandkids. Family was very important to
him. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne; children, Wendy (Brent) Mathely,
