Alfred G. Smakal
Age 79 of Morrice passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at McLaren in Flint.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11am Monday, January 16, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Morrice with Fr. John Bosco officiating. Burial will follow at Bethany Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Home on Sunday from 4 to 8pm with a rosary prayed at 7pm.
Alfred was born June 21, 1937 in Owosso, the son of Albert and Anna (Durnick) Smakal and proudly served in the United States Navy.
He graduated from Morrice High School, was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and Jaycee's. Hunting and camping was a passion and he looked forward to golfing at Corunna Hills.
He married Judith Soupal at St. Paul Catholic Church in Owosso on July 10, 1965; she predeceased him on January 15, 2006.
Alfred was employed through the years as a tool and die designer for Miller's Engineering in Flint and retired from Electrical Mechanical Products in 2000.
Alfred is survived by his sons Craig Smakal, Todd (Jeannette) Smakal, Brent (Tammy) Smakal and Erik Smakal; grandchildren Tiffany, Hannah, Harley, Emma, Jacen and Jocef; great-grandchildren Holly and Jeremy; several nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends.
He was predeceased by his wife and brothers Bill and Henry Smakal.
