Obituary for Carroll G. Tarolli

CARROLL GERMAIN TAROLLI – BELOVED HUSBAND, FATHER, GRANDFATHER AND FRIEND

Born in Owosso, Michigan on July 11, 1921.  Departed on May 1, 2018.

At nearly 97 years of age, Carroll Germain Tarolli, lived a long and fulfilling life.  He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, and neighbor.  Carroll was quiet and reserved but endeared himself to others through his many acts of kindness.

Carroll is survived by his five adoring children, eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

Carroll was born to the late Charles and Lovina (Fenske) Tarolli, July 11, 1921, in Owosso, Michigan, the seventh of eight children.  He attended Owosso High School through the 10th grade when he dropped out to help support his family.

Carroll enlisted in the Navy on July 15, 1942, and served in both the Atlantic and Pacific during World War II.   On March 8, 1944, Carroll married the late Minnie Iretha (Hinspeter) Tarolli.  Before her passing in 1996, Carroll and Iretha shared fifty-two joyful years in Owosso. Their love and respect for one another throughout their years together was the foundation for their happy family life and the legacy that they leave behind.   Following the war, Carroll owned and operated Tarolli’s Hardware on Corunna Avenue, in Owosso, until his retirement in 1983.  He was a true handyman and was able to provide his customers and friends advice and instruction on all types of home repairs and projects.  In addition, Carroll was a gifted wood worker, gardener, and baker.  He readily shared the fruits of those labors of love with everyone around him.  He was particularly fond of making nativity sets out of exotic woods. He made over 100 sets which are cherished by many friends and family. Carroll’s other passion was Michigan football.  He was a season ticket holder and didn’t miss a single home game for over 30 years.

Carroll was a devout Christian and long-time member of the Owosso Wesleyan Church, where he served on the board for many years, and later was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.

Beloved husband of the late Iretha for 52 wonderful years.  Loving father of Jon (Janet) Tarolli, of Chelsea; Susan (Robert) Every, of Lansing; Linda (John) Zawacki, of Owosso; Jackie (Jim) Cram, of Owosso; and Heidi (Chris) Smith, of Troy.  Grandfather of Michael Tarolli, Jodi (Kelly) Parker, Steven (Colleen) Tarolli, Kellie (Mike) Farhat, Sarah Zawacki, Kimberly Zawacki, Charlie Smith, and Jessica Smith.  Great-grandfather of Cameron, Olivia, Avery, Lucy, and Brady.  Brother-in-law of Audrey (the late Merle) Tarolli and uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11am on Friday, May 4, 2018 at Nelson-House Funeral Home-Owosso Chapel with Pastor Mark Green officiating.  Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, May 3 from 5pm to 8pm and on Friday from 10am until the time of service.

The family would like to extend our gratitude to all the staff at the Ingham County Medical Care Facility in Okemos for their attentiveness and loving support.

In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made in Carroll’s name to Ingham County Medical Care Facility (http://dobieroad.org/product/donate/)
