Carroll Ray Johnson

Age 84 of Owosso passed away Friday, February 9, 2018 at Hospice House of Shiawassee County.

Funeral Services will be held 5pm Sunday February 11, 2018 at Nelson-House Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Roberts officiating. Burial will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 1pm to 5pm.

Carroll was born November 9, 1933 in Sumner, the son of Alfred and Marguerite (Hyde) Johnson.

He married Virginia Mae Jaquays on September 3, 1955 at the Warren Wesleyan Church in Warren.

Carroll attended Kindergarten thru 7th grade at Wolford School (a one room country school), 8th grade thru 12th grade at Alma Jr. and Sr. High School where he graduated from. Carroll furthered his education at Owosso College (church college), Michigan State University where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and his Master's degree in Elementary Education and Administration. Carroll was a pastor for five years at the Pilgrim Holiness (now Wesleyan) Church; an elementary teacher for five years, three years which were for Owosso Public Schools; Elementary Principal for 17 years at Emerson and six years at Bentley and Roosevelt Schools and Director of Chapter 1, Carroll then retired in 1993.

Carroll was a member of the Owosso Wesleyan Church since 1954 and recently attended Owosso First Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed gardening, camping, woodworking and playing the piano.

Carroll is survived by his wife Virginia; children Karen (Peter) Ostrander of Oakley and Ella (James) Orton of Gagetown; grandchildren Nathan Scott, Heidi Scott and Britney (Dan) Neumeister; sister June Freed of Bradenton, Florida; brothers Keith (Mary Pearl) Johnson of Vestaburg and Alfred (Joan Hunt) Johnson of Sumner; several nieces and nephews and many other loving family and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Wesley Johnson and Paul Johnson, sisters Velma Dorony Ruth (Lester) Wells, Ida Erlandson and Donna Parks, infant son Richard "Ricky" Johnson.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Hospice House of Shiawassee County.
