Obituary for Dr. Clara Marie (Dodge) Refson

Age 92 of Dexter, formerly of Ovid, passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2018.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, March 16, 2018 at Nelson-House Funeral Homes Martin Chapel. Burial will follow at Ridge Road Cemetery. The family will receive friends that day from 1:00pm until the time of service.

Clara was born on January 11, 1926 to Howard and Kittie (Woolston) Dodge in Chapin, Michigan. She graduated from Michigan State University and Rutgers University, earning her PhD. She married Col. Jacob S. Refson on March 21, 1947 in Chicago; they celebrated 54 years of marriage before he predeceased her in 2001.

Clara worked in Biochemistry Research at the University of Michigan for many years. During her life, she enjoyed oil painting and tole painting, and she loved animals of all kinds. She traveled all over the world with her husband through his career in the US Airforce. She was also a member of the National Audubon Society.

Clara is survived by her daughter, Deborah (Robert) Hadding. She is predeceased by her husband, Col. Jacob S. Refson, and her parents, Howard and Kittie Dodge.
