Gayle M. Harris

Gayle made her final journey home Tuesday, December 5, 2017, to be reunited with her son, Gary, who passed in November 2010.

Gayle Smith-Harris was born February 5, 1935, to Mary and Kenneth Smith in New Lothrop, MI.  She graduated from Durand High School in 1952 and moved to Owosso in 1953.

As a secretary, Gayle worked for the former Redmond and Mid-West Abrasive Companies and after 28 years of service retired from the Shiawassee County Mental Health Center in 1994.  She was a volunteer at the Shiawassee Chamber of Commerce for a period of time.

Gayle loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them whenever possible.  Over a period of 20+ years many happy weekends were spent with family and friends at her trailer at Little Crystal Lake.  She enjoyed traveling, golfing, cruises, and trips to Las Vegas, Hawaii, Cancun, and many other destinations.

Gayle is survived by her daughter, Cathy (Alan) Rhoderick and family, son Brian (Wendy) Harris and family, great-grandchildren. sister Betty Jenkins.  Also nieces, nephews and many friends.  She was preceded in death by her son, Gary, and parents, Mary and Kenneth Smith.

The family will receive visitors on Sunday, December 10th at Nelson House Funeral Home in Owosso from noon to 2pm, followed by a celebration of Life officiated by Rev. John Walworth.
