Leslie J. Barnes

81 years of age of Owosso formerly of Chesaning passed away Friday July 13,2018.

A Celebration of Leslie’s life will be held Monday July 16, 2018 at 11:00 am Nelson-House Funeral Home, Owosso with Reverend Ray Strawser officiating and burial to follow at Mt Rest Cemetery in St Johns, Mi.
The family will receive friends and visitors on Sunday from 12 noon until 6pm at the funeral home.

Leslie was born February 5, 1937 in Ithaca to his parents Paul and Frieda (Gantz) Barnes.

Les graduated from St Johns High School with the class of 1955.

After graduation he married the love of his life Virginia Rosekrans on October 20, 1956 at the St Johns United Methodists Church in St Johns. They were married for 61 years and had a daughter; Shirley and 2 sons Glenn and Douglas. As the kids grew up they made a move to Chesaning where they raised their family.

Les enjoyed the outdoors whether hunting, fishing or playing,coaching or watching whatever sport was in season. He picked up woodworking as a hobby in his later years that he really enjoyed doing when he retired from the State of Michigan as a mechanic . After retirement Les also found another hobby he had great interest in, real estate so he became a realtor, selling real estate for many years throughout Saginaw and Shiawassee Counties.

Les is survived by his wife Virginia daughter Shirley(Tracy) Belcher, Sons; Glenn Barnes (Lori Fisher) and Douglas (Alexandra) Barnes, 6 grandchildren and 1 great grand child with one on the way, 2 sisters; Kay Wilke and Ruth Schultz, several nieces and nephews and loving family and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents and a brother; Jerry Barnes
