Obituary for Maradean Louise Fischer

Maradean Louise Fischer passed away on July 25th, 2017 at Hospice House of Shiawassee County. She was 93 years old.

Maradean was born on September 16th, 1923 in Flint, Michigan to her parents Earl and Gertrude Smith. She married the love of her life Henry “Hank” Fischer on April 30th, 1948 after they both served in World War II. She was a proud member of The United States Marines. She and Hank moved to Owosso, MI in 1978. A loving mother, homemaker, and childcare provider, Mrs. Fischer also worked at The AC in Flint, and The Water Department of Owosso.

Her love of children spilled over from her professional life into her personal life, Maradean was known as “Grandma Fischer,” to nine grandchildren, and “Great Grandma Fischer” to 4 lovely great granddaughters. A devoted grandmother, she spent her summers entertaining her grandchildren – putting kiddie pools on the porch and allowing the girls to try her bright coral lipstick. Grandma Fischer was also known to allow ice cream before supper.

Mrs. Fischer is survived by her husband of 69 years, Hank Fischer; her children; Pamela (and Richard) Friebus, Nancy Toben, Donald (and Theresa) Fischer, and Catherine (and Marvin) Crawford; her sister Ruth Groesser; nine grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Earl and Gertrude Smith; and Siblings; Harold Smith, DJ Smith, Evelyn Swogger, and Betty Groesser.

Maradean Fischer loved to spend her free time chatting, knitting, crocheting, and doing crossword puzzles. Worshiping and sharing Bible Stories with family and friends were some of her favorite past-times. She remained incredibly active into her eighties walking miles and miles each week for her health and happiness. She had many friends to visit along the way and constantly shared God’s love and blessings everywhere she went. Holidays in The Fischer Household were filled with love, laughter, and butterscotch pie. A loving planner, Maradean was always willing to adjust her plans for the needs of the family, and there wasn’t much that she couldn’t fix with a ginger-ale and a lullaby.

There was always a joy about Maradean, whether she was sharing the latest from Regis and Kathy Lee, bragging about Hank’s golf game, or planning a trip out west with the family. Her energy and light will be missed, as she would say “like the Dickens!”

Maradean Fischer’s family will welcome visitors at Salem Lutheran Church in Owosso, MI at 10:00am Tuesday August 1st, 2017 with a memorial service to follow at 11:00am. All are welcome to join in the celebration of a beautiful life and an eternal home in heaven.
