Obituary for Raymond James Klipper

Age 58, of Oakley, passed away Sunday, September 2, 2018 at Hospice House of Shiawassee County.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 6, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chesaning with Pastor Joel Thomford officiating. A luncheon will be held at the church following the service. The family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Home’s Martin Chapel on Wednesday, September 5, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The visitation on Wednesday will feature a car show, so guests are encouraged to arrive in their classic cars. Those attending are also welcome to bring a nut and bolt that will become special project that Ray requested to be made upon his passing.

Raymond was born on July 18, 1960 to Frank and Susan (Bolf) Klipper in Saginaw. He graduated from Chesaning High School. Raymond married Vickie Mihalik on February 14, 1981.

Hot rods and classic cars were his passion, especially his 1955 Chevy Bel Air. He loved attending car shows and restoring vehicles, as well as his working on his 1958 Chris Craft boat. Racing was life in all forms, from pro stock to go karts, for Ray. He was an avid fan of NASCAR, Dale Earnhardt (the man in black), and his favorite actor, Tim, "The Tool Man," Allen.

Summer days spent camping at Torch Lake with his family and friends were a favorite of Ray’s for many years, including just a few weeks ago, where a final adventure took place at his request. He enjoyed grilling food for his friends and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Raymond greatly enjoyed serving his Lord and Savior during his earthly life. He served as the property board chairman, along with numerous other volunteer capacities, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was known for being a giving-hearted person; if anyone needed anything, Ray was the first person to arrive and tackle whatever project needed to be done.

Raymond worked as a welder for Chesaning Manufacturing (Jetool) for 41 years. His work can be found at a few locations in Chesaning, including the pole for the clock that sits on the boulevard, as well as the water tower at Swartzmiller Lumber Company.

Raymond is survived by his loving wife, Vickie (Mihalik) Klipper; his daughter, Ashleigh (Denver) Laabs; his son, Brandon (Lora) Klipper; his grandchildren, Victoria Grace Laabs and Eamon Ray Klipper; his sister, Betty Lou (Pete) Dudek; his brother, Dwight Klipper; his mother-in-law, Judy Mihalik; his brother-in-law, Mike (Darla) Mihalik; his special nephew, Scott Cobb; many more nieces and nephews; his special friends, Jim and Sharri Symons; and his godchildren, Mark and Tom Symons.

He is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Susan (Bolf) Klipper; his sister, Mary Lou (Larry) Cobb; and his father-in-law, Michael Mihalik.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hospice House of Shiawassee County, or the American Diabetes Association.
