Obituary for Virginia Ann Compton

Virginia Compton

Virginia Ann (Mueller) Compton of Corunna was surrounded by family when she died at home on February 4, 2018. She was 82 years old.

Cremation has already taken place. A graveside prayer service will be held at Pine Tree Cemetery in Corunna, Michigan at 1pm Saturday, May 12, 2018.

Virginia was born March 3, 1935 in Clinton County, Michigan, the daughter of Herman and Mary (Meehan) Mueller. She graduated from St. Johns High School and later married Robert “Bob” Compton in St. Johns, Michigan at St. Joseph Catholic Church in 1954. Virginia and Bob had a wonderful life together, improving their home and sharing time with family and friends. Their home-movies are full of picnics, parades, celebrations and laughter. They especially enjoyed their vacations at Sage Lake and occasional trips to Las Vegas.

Virginia worked for many years at Corunna High School and was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Owosso. She spent much of her life caring for family and friends. Every fall, she shared her delicious canned fruits, pickles, and vegetables grown at home or in her brother’s bountiful garden. Her holiday table overflowed with her family’s favorite pies, cookies, and tins of fudge. If you were lucky enough to know her, you soon found out that she enjoyed a good story, always drank her beer with a pinch of salt, and delighted in games of chance.

Virginia will be dearly missed by her children: Ed Compton of Corunna; Deb Compton of Stockbridge, Georgia; and Jim (Jill) Compton of Marquette. She loved her six grandchildren: Hollie, Elenor, Robert, Asa, Margaret, and Seth, and her great-grandson Liam. She is also survived by her brothers Robert Mueller of Houghton Lake, and Gerald (Marilyn) Mueller of Franklin, Indiana, and her four sisters, Mary Geraldine Moore of St. Johns, Agnes Fedewa of Westphalia, Mary Ann Mueller of Mesa, Arizona, and Blanche (Bruce) Woodbury of Elsie, as well as sisters-in-law Betty Mueller, Joyce Spencer, and Vivian Compton along with many nieces and nephews. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob, her beloved son Keith, her brothers Laurence “Bud” Mueller, Charles Mueller, and Jim Mueller, two infant siblings John and Patty, as well as brothers- and sisters-in-law Kenneth Compton, Marvin Fedewa, James “Jake” Spencer, Larry Moore, Shirley Schlaack, and Rosemary Compton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. Jude Hospital or St. Paul Catholic Church of Owosso.

The whole family wishes to thank Edward Compton, who along with Memorial Healthcare Hospice, dedicated himself to providing excellent and loving care for his mother, allowing Virginia to stay at home until the very end.
