Vivian Marie MacGillivray

Age 97 of Owosso passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Oliver Woods Retirement Village.

Funeral services will be held 11am Monday, March 5, 2018 at Nelson-House Funeral Homes-Owosso Chapel with Rev. Steve Gonzales officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2pm to 8pm with an Order of Eastern Star service at 7pm.

Vivian was born February 9, 1921 in Owosso, the daughter of Ray and Lydia (Dietrich) Harmon.

She graduated from Owosso High School and after graduating she worked at Fedders Manufacturing in Owosso and later retired from East Detroit Public Schools after 21 years of service. In her earlier years she played fast pitch softball for Storrer's Mens Store and Shippee and Smith Sports Store. She was a life member of the Order of Eastern Star and volunteered for Owosso Memorial Healthcare, Hospice and Respite. Vivian liked doing cross stitch and playing golf. In 1983 she won the 1st Flight Champion for Club 10 at Bennington Hills Golf Course. She did a lot of walking which included walking the Mackinaw Bridge several times, walks to Corunna and 5K walks at the Hospital. Vivian was at one time the oldest lady to walk the Mackinaw Bridge.

She married William "Bill" MacGillivray on February 9, 1941 in Napolean, Ohio; he predeceased her on November 22, 1998.

Vivian is survived by her sons William (Sandy) MacGillivray of Sand Pointe, MI and Jack (Carol) MacGillivray of Lake City, MI; daughter-in-law Sally MacGillivray of New Baltimore; 5 grandchildren Brett, Todd, Katie and Hannah MacGillivray and Kari Merlo; 4 great-grandchildren Matthew, Ella, Grace Merlo and Miranda MacGillivray; several other loving family and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband Bill, son Donald MacGillivray, parents, brothers Alvah, James and Harry Harmon; sisters Clara Schultz and Mildred Harvey.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Respite of Shiawassee County.
