He was officially retired for the Army March 1, 1972. He took one month to enjoy time at home and look for a new job. He started working at Midland Ross where he worked as a lab technician building test stands for air break systems. He then moved on to calibration and procurement. He worked at Midland Ross for 17 years. Mason and Peggy got divorced in 1978. He met and married Janet "Jan" Connor September 6, 1980 in Owosso, Michigan. Mason and Jan enjoyed many wonderful years together, spending time in both Michigan and Arizona. They were married for 38 years until he passed away.

Mason started carving at a young age. He began carving gun stocks and later on in life he would always have a project that he was working on. He won many awards throughout his life and taught many people the skill of woodworking.

He also enjoyed winemaking, fishing, shooting, and hunting. Growing up in Newberry, Michigan he began hunting for the family. He also belonged to the Dog and Gun Club in Germany where they would only take the top 5 guys and participate in competitive shoots. He won numerous trophy's at the competitive shoots in France and Spain.

He was a life member of Corunna VFW Post 4005 and the Michigan Wood Carvers Association.

He was many things, but most of all he was a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, husband, and friend.

Grandpa, I will always miss you, but I have so many wonderful memories to hang on to. I love you Grandpa, at least you're free of pain and can take care of mom. Until we meet again.
