James Burt Weber

Age 81 of Owosso passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Welcome Home Assisted Living in Owosso.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am Wednesday January 17, 2018 at St. Paul Catholic Church with Father Dieudonne Ntakarutimana . Burial will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery. The family will receive family and friends at Nelson-House Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2pm to 8pm with a rosary being prayed at 7pm.

James Burt was born July 5, 1936 in Crystal Falls, Michigan, the youngest son of Guido and Myrtle (LeClaire) Weber.

He graduated from St. John Vianney, Flint, MI where he excelled in sports, lettering in football, baseball and basketball.

Burt proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and received an honorable discharge in 1961 after serving as the Crew Chief for a fighter jet with a rank of Airman Second Class. While stationed at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona he played the part of a Crew Chief in the 1958 20th Century Fox Motion Picture “The Hunters” which depicted fighter jet combat during the Korean War.

He married the love of his life Judith Barron on September 29, 1962 in Flint Michigan. They moved to Owosso in 1974 where he resided until his death.

Burt was a dedicated member of St. Paul Catholic Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus achieving the rank of 4th Degree. He regularly volunteered at the American Legion Owosso post. He was an avid bowler and golfer and was on numerous golf and bowling leagues.

Burt worked as an Operating Engineer at the Genesee Valley Mall in Flint for more than 30 years. He was especially adept at making due with what he had available. His children noted he never called a repair service and could fix anything.

Burt’s sense of humor, generosity, and optimism will be missed by his friends and family. He had the ability to make people smile, and he loved to laugh.

Burt is survived by his children, James (Kendi) Weber Jr., Jane (Timothy) Heys, and Jeffrey (Megan) Weber; seven grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brother Robert (Pauline) Weber; sister-in-law Betty Weber; several nieces and nephews and many other loving family and friends.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife Judith, his parents, and his brother William Weber.

Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Vincent DePaul of St. Paul's Catholic Church.
