Obituary for Roy J. Harris

Roy Harris, retired contractor and avid bass fisherman, passed May 7, 2018 in his longtime home in Austin, Texas, in the presence of his daughter, Nancy Kinney. His passing was due to natural causes. He was preceded in death last year by his wife of 66 years, Margaret Harris and his son, Richard Harris. Roy is survived by brothers George (Audrey) Harris and Jim (Connie) Harris, and sister Sally (Vendel) Printer, daughter Nancy (George) Kinney, his son Roger (Jane) Harris, his grandchildren, John-Ryan Wells, Cara Miller, Richard Aaron Harris, Ben Harris, Sam Harris, Peter (Piper) Harris, Andrew Harris, and Brittany Wells, and his great-grandchildren, Kristian and Rose Maldonado, Katlyn, Trinity, and Roy Wells, Keagan Pollock, Emerson Dill, and Isla Harris.

In his younger days, he was a place kicker for the Michigan State football team. A call to arms inspired him to join the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, and while stationed in Warrington, England he met and married the love of his life, Margaret Corbett, with whom he remained married for 66 years. He was known as a devoted husband and reliable family man.

He was loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Services will be held graveside at the Wildwood Cemetery in Chesaning, Michigan @ 1 p.m. on June 2, 2018.
