Obituary for Margaret "Peggy" Britton

Margaret "Peggy" Britton

Age 94 of Milwaukee, Wisconsin formerly of Las Vegas and Owosso passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Columbia St. Mary's Hospital in Wisconsin.

Funeral Services will be held 5pm Friday July 27, 2018 at Nelson-House Funeral Home - Owosso Chapel with Deacon Edington officiating.  The family will receive family and friends at the funeral home on Friday from 4pm until the time of service.

Peggy was born May 16, 1924 in Owosso, the daughter of Patrick and Sarah (Coe) Sinnott. She grew up with six sisters and six brothers. She graduated from Owosso High School in 1943. She married Milton “Don” Britton in Owosso on December 4, 1942. Soon after they married, Don was called up for active duty in the Air Force and left to undertake supply missions over “the Hump” in the eastern Himalayan Mountains.

After Don returned from World War II, Peggy and Don ran a flying school in Owosso from 1947 to 1949. Shortly thereafter, Don returned to the Air Force. They moved many times because of Don’s job with the Air Force.  They lived in Las Vegas, Nevada; Sherman, Texas; near Winnipeg, Manitoba, in Canada; and outside Baltimore, Maryland, before returning to Las Vegas after Don was killed in a plane crash in Laos on April 6, 1962. She lived in Las Vegas for over 50 years.

After moving back to Las Vegas, Peggy worked in the casino industry. She worked briefly in a casino downtown, but was employed for most of her career by the Sahara Hotel and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip, where she worked at the reservations desk and met various famous personalities, including Don Rickles, Buddy Hackett and Frank Sinatra.

She is survived by her son, Richard of Rapid River, Michigan; her grandson Marcus, granddaughter-in-law Jennifer and grandsons, Jacob and Nathaniel of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; sisters, Rose Senrud of Owosso and Patricia Wirth of Spokane, Washington; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brothers George, William, Patrick, James, Paul and John and her sisters, Sr. Mary Patrice Sinnott, Katie Sinnott, Ida Sinnott and Irene Buckley.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Air Force Aid Society (www.afas.org).
