Obituary for Frederick Milton Schultz

Frederick Milton Schultz

Age 95 of Owosso, passed away Saturday September 1, 2018 at Hospice House of Shiawassee County.

Funeral Services will be held 11am Friday, September 7, 2018 at Nelson-House Funeral Home - Owosso Chapel with Justin Schultz officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday September 6 from 4pm to 8pm and on Friday from 10am until the time of service.

The oldest of four siblings, Fritz was born August 13, 1923 to Harry F. Schultz Sr. and Gladys V. Brigham. He grew up in Corunna, Bancroft and Vernon graduating from Owosso High School in 1941. In August of 1942, he eloped with his high school sweetheart Jean Louise Whiting in Napoleon, Ohio.

Fred was drafted into the Army in March 1943. He served at Fort Reno for a short time with the 124th Cavalry, which happened to be the last horse cavalry regiment in the army, breaking and training wild horses and mules to be pack animals. His unit then went overseas to the China-Burma-India Theatre in October 1944. He served as a scout with the Mars Task Force as it moved over 300 miles in Japanese-held territory, relying only on aerial resupply. Between April 26 and May 14, 1945 the regiment was flown over The Hump to Kunming in China. On July 1, 1945 the regiment was inactivated at Kunming. Honorably discharged, he returned home and began working with his father as a carpenter and starting a family with Jean.

Always returning to carpentry, he also worked as a Draftsman at Midland Ross, Building Inspector for the City of Owosso, and with his wife at Century 21 Schultz Real Estate. In the early 1980s they moved to Florida returning in 1999. Not to brag, but while there in his 70's, he worked on high rise construction with his son and grandson. In his 90's, he mowed and took care of his own yard. Fritz enjoyed working in his yard, reading, and tracing his family tree. He was always working on a project, or helping someone with theirs.

Fritz is survived by his children Terry L. Schultz, Sherry S. Dwyer, Susan K. Blight, Kevin L. (Cindy Weekley) Schultz, Jeanine A. (Randy) Rothe, and Amy Jo (James) Porter; sister Nora Jean Wright; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Fritz was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Jean; his son Paul; brothers Robert and Harry; son-in-law Ray Dwyer and great-grandson Russell "Rusty" L. Schultz.

Frederick Schultz was a loyal son, a big brother, loving husband, uncle, our dad and our grampa.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to be made to Rusty's Hope, Owosso Salvation Army or the Hospice House of Shiawassee County.
